The pattern of the blade is designed, and it is forged-welded, twisted, drilled, flattened, ground, and forge-welded some more. Billets or bars of steel are formed into a billet; these billets or bars are then used to make a knife. The knife is profiled, ground, heat-treated, and finished with additional processes like etching and bluing to reveal the striking pattern on the blade. The blade is temperamental—tempering it makes it harder while tempering makes it softer—so we have to take extra care in maintaining its sharpness.
